Description
Kloovenburg Wine Estate is situated close to the quaint town of Riebeek Kasteel on the picturesque slopes of the Kasteel Mountain. Kloovenburg vineyards stretch along the lower contours of Kasteelberg (which translates as Castle Mountain), offering a diverse collection of soils, altitudes and different slopes. The history of the farm goes back to the mid 18th century but the first bottled wines were only produced by the du Toit family in 1998. The combination of cold, wet winters, dry summers when drip irrigation is controlled based on soil moisture readings and the varied climatic and soil conditions on the slopes of the mountain, make it possible to produce a wide variety of quality red and white wines. The estate is planted to 60% red and 40% white producing award winning Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Merlot, Shiraz, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Colombar, Pinot Noir and Pontac. Of the farm’s 300 hectares, 110 are under wine grapes, the best 30% of which are reserved for making Kloovenburg’s own wines.
Intense ruby in colour. The bouquet shows aromas of intense black and red fruit with hints of violets and peppery notes, combined with gentle spice. The palate is medium full bodied, good structure with soft and silky tannins on the finish.
